A crash this Wednesday involving a Cadillac and a tractor-trailer on Kentucky 435 sent one driver to the hospital.

According to The Ledger Independent, this accident happened on April 18, 2018 before dawn at the intersection of Kentucky 435 and Kentucky 9 AA Highway. As the driver of a 1985 Cadillac turned right onto Kentucky 9, she allegedly hit a trailer attached to a 2015 Volvo tractor. The Volvo was headed north and the Cadillac was initially headed west.

When safety crews arrived on the scene they quickly transported the woman to a local hospital. The driver of the Volvo wasn’t injured in this crash. Thankfully, there were no passengers in either vehicle.

There’s no official word on the Cadillac driver’s condition. She is, however, recovering at a hospital.

Police are still investigating the cause of this accident under the leadership of Deputy John Ferguson.

The Sad Stats: Car Crashes In Kentucky

Statistics out of the Kentucky Department of Transportation suggest there are at least 161,300 car accidents in the Bluegrass State every year. Unfortunately, 782 people this year have already lost their lives in car accidents in Kentucky. With the increase in distracted driving complaints (e.g. texting while driving), safety officials don’t believe it will be easy to turn these numbers around in the near future.

The best thing you can do to protect yourself on the roads is to be proactive about your safety, especially at intersections. It shouldn’t be hard to understand why car accidents are more likely to occur at intersections. Even without bad driving practices like DUI or speeding, many drivers simply fail to signal their intentions properly at these critical junctures.

It’s important to be extra cautious before making any sudden turns, especially when traveling at fast speeds. Taking a few seconds to signal could literally save your life.
