Kentucky interstates can prove dangerous for drivers when hazards like high speeds and heavy traffic combine. With speed limits of 65 mph, motorists are tempted to go well beyond the limit. Road obstacles like objects in the road and stopped traffic can appear out of nowhere in front of drivers leaving little reaction time.

Kentucky State Police responded to over 13,500 accidents on interstates over the course of 2018. Those accidents left almost 2,500 occupants injured and claimed 71 lives. Interstate 265 around Louisville was the scene for 870 of those collisions.

Interstate collisions can be devastating and can leave behind many victims.  One accident can start a chain reaction crash when drivers coming upon the first impact don’t have time to avoid the cars involved.  Accidents can even occur in the traffic backup that results from an accident that blocks the road.

Louisville Six-Car Accident on I-265

Six vehicles were involved in a collision during rush hour in Louisville Thursday evening.  WLKY-TV reported the accident happened around 530 pm on Interstate 265 at Taylorsville Road on August 27, 2020.

The Kentucky State Police haven’t released information on what caused the accident. Multiple Injuries were reported, but the extent of the injuries is unknown.

The accident left evening traffic backed up for miles. The interstate was able to be reopened around 630 pm.

Finding Compensation After an Interstate Accident

In these tragic accidents, there can be many victims left in the aftermath.  One incident can trigger multiple impacts with the possibility of injury in every vehicle. There can also be multiple drivers found to be at fault in these multi-car accidents.

The original driver may have been distracted or perhaps was trying to avoid a tire in the road.  Another driver may be speeding, leaving him or her unable to stop in time to avoid the next accident. Interstate collisions can be difficult to sort out for investigators and insurance companies.

You may be a victim in an interstate crash after a careless driver made a mistake that led to several cars running into each other. Your recovery from injury may be long and expensive. Filing a claim against the at-fault driver or drivers may be the only way to get help in paying your medical bills and covering your losses after missing time from your job.

If you feel you were partially to blame for a portion of a multi-vehicle accident, you may still be able to collect compensation from other drivers.  Kentucky is a pure comparative negligence state. That means drivers can share a percentage of the blame in accidents.  You might be assigned 30% of the liability in a collision, two other drivers may shoulder 35% of the damage each. You can still collect compensation, but your share of the blame would be subtracted from your final award.
