The risk of traffic accidents is something we often don’t consider as we leave the house every morning. Yet, the statistics show that every day there are lives lost in our state as well as people seriously hurt in collisions.

In 2018, there were 724 fatal accident victims on Kentucky roads. The Kentucky State Police confirmed that 76 of those victims were killed in Jefferson County. That’s down from the 108 deaths reported in the county in 2017.

Every year people are left to struggle with painful injuries and families are left to grieve lost loved ones.

Man Killed in Louisville Two-Car Accident

A man lost his life when two cars collided in Douglass Hills on Thursday evening. WLKY-TV reported the accident happened just after 6:30 p.m. near where Burnsdale and Shelbyville roads intersect.

Louisville Metro Police say a car and an SUV were involved in an impact that killed a male driver. A woman driving the other vehicle suffered injuries and was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle.

Investigators have not said what lead to the accident.

Compensation After an Accident in Louisville

In the wake of a devastating accident, victims and their families may be put through a difficult recovery and in some cases have to cope with the loss of a loved one.

In either case, it’s important to make sure victims and family members don’t face the consequences of an accident alone. At-fault drivers and their insurance companies can be held liable and be forced to pay for all of the damages a violent collision can leave in its wake.

For victims trying to heal from the injuries they’ve suffered, filing a claim for damages may be necessary. The driver who caused the accident should be held accountable for things like ambulance fees and hospital costs. The loss of income as victims find they have to miss work should also be compensated. Victims didn’t cause the accident that left them facing an expensive recovery and they shouldn’t have to worry about bills and everyday living expenses as they attempt to get back to a normal life.

In the aftermath of a fatal accident, the family left behind may have to protect themselves from the financial burden someone else’s mistake left them with. Close relatives of the deceased victim can file a wrongful death claim against the at-fault driver to protect against the costs they’ve endured and will endure in the future.

The person responsible for the accident can be ordered to reimburse the family for medical and funeral costs. This civil lawsuit can also recover the future earnings the victim would have provided the immediate family had he or she been alive to continue working. A spouse and children of the victim are now without the emotional support the deceased would have provided over their lifetimes. That mental anguish can also be part of compensation.
