Hit-And-Runs In USA Are Rising; How Does Kentucky Fare?

Hit-and-run drivers are becoming increasingly common across the USA. A new AAA study shows that 2,049 Americans died in hit-and-run accidents in 2016. That’s the highest hit-and-run fatality figure since AAA started collecting crash data in 1975.

From 2009 to 2016, AAA says hit-and-run fatalities have gone up a whopping 62 percent. Unfortunately, many AAA analysts don’t expect this number to go down any time soon.

Over half of all those killed in hit-and-run crashes in the USA are either pedestrians or cyclists. 20 percent of all pedestrian fatalities are related to hit-and-runs.

On AAA’s list of the best & worst states for hit-and-runs Kentucky came in 32nd place. The top three states for hit-and-run accidents in descending order were New Mexico, Louisiana, and Florida.
