On Saturday, May 5, 2018, many were celebrating a very rainy Kentucky Derby or Cinco de Mayo. Unfortunately, there were also a number of accidents on the road this day.

One of these accidents took place in Letcher County. A man from Virginia was driving a Chevy Silverado Pickup truck and towing a loaded horse trailer when he allegedly crossed the center line and drove in to oncoming traffic. When his truck crossed into the southbound lane of US 119 he had a head-on collision with a small Toyota Yaris. The Toyota Yaris had 3 occupants; two were sent to the hospital, and tragically, one of the passengers died.

According to EKBtv.com, the driver of the truck was later charged with DUI, assault and felony manslaughter for the injuries and death.

DUI Accidents

Car accident can have devastating consequences for everyone involved, but an extra element of injustice is added when the accident was caused by someone who was driving while under the influence. When an intoxicated person gets behind the wheel of a car, they make a decision that endangers not only their own life, but the lives of everyone else who is sharing the road. If you or a loved one have been injured in an accident caused by the negligent actions of a drunk driver, then you have the legal right to seek full compensation for all damages.
