A head-on collision in Graves County claimed the life of one woman last Thursday afternoon. Officers say two other people, one driver and one passenger, were injured in this crash.

According to KFVS News, this fatal accident occurred on Moreland Road at approximately 1:40PM on March 29th. State police say they believe the driver of a Ford Edge lost control of the vehicle and struck a minivan head-on. Sadly, the woman driving the minivan, who was 84-years-old, was killed on impact.

Safety officials quickly transported the 32-year-old driver of the Ford Edge and a 2-year-old passenger to a nearby hospital. The police have yet to release information on the severity of these two crash victims’ injuries.

Police say they had to close KY 303 for about three hours while they attended to the scene. In addition to the Kentucky State Police, the Mayfield Fire Department and the Graves County EMS arrived on the scene of this accident.

Severity Of Head-On Collisions In KY

While less than 2 percent of car crashes in Kentucky are head-on collisions, this tiny percentage accounts for 30 percent of all traffic fatalities. Since head-on collisions involve two front bumpers crashing into each other usually at extremely fast speeds, it’s no wonder these crashes are among the most lethal on the road.

Unfortunately, the rate of head-on collisions is only going up year-on-year due to poor driving habits like speeding, driving under the influence, and texting while driving. Driver’s fatigue and failing to slow down in extreme weather conditions are also common reasons for head-on collisions.

If you’re lucky to make it out of a head-on collision alive, you’re almost certainly going to need the help of a professional accident lawyer. Remember, someone is always at fault for a head-on collision. Responsible drivers who are involved in a crash due to someone else’s negligence on the road deserve justice.
