Accidents Involving Passing Motorists in Vanceburg KY

By Kaufman and Stigger on

Kentucky’s two-lane state highways present tight curves and some steep grades for local drivers. Motorists have to be wary of the cars around them and pay close attention when vehicles are attempting to pass slower traffic.

With just two lanes to work with, passing can be a difficult maneuver for drivers if not timed just right. A veer into the oncoming lane can suddenly leave a car in the path of other vehicles and at risk of a collision.

The Kentucky State Police document passing hazards every year while out on patrol. In a single year, they recorded over 1,200 crashes that occurred while a driver attempted to pass other vehicles. Sadly those accidents led to the deaths of 11 people in Kentucky for the year.

A driver attempting to pass another motorist led to a deadly collision in Vanceburg early Tuesday morning. FOX56-TV reported the accident happened around 6:15 a.m. along State Highway 9 on May 11, 2021.

Kentucky State Police say that a 20-year-old man from Vanceburg driving a Chrysler car attempted to pass another vehicle and then struck a Ford Fusion driven by a 25-year-old man from Vanceburg.

The 20-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lewis County Coroner. The 25-year-old driver was rushed to the University of Kentucky Medical Center with injuries. KSP investigators have not released the cause of the crash.

Getting Help for Vanceburg Accident Victims

Frightening highway accidents don’t just affect the drivers and passengers involved, they also target the family members of those hurt or killed in a terrible crash. For surviving victims the medical costs collected over a full recovery from injury can add up to thousands of dollars and the expenses can continue to build over months of physical therapy.

Victims and their families can file a claim for damages to alert the at-fault driver’s insurance provider of every hardship an accident has caused. Victims can demand compensation not just for hospital costs, but also for things lost wages at work and travel costs experienced during recovery.

For families left to mourn the loss of a loved one, emergency response fees and funeral costs can soon come due. The loss of the guidance and financial support the deceased had always provided the family can also cause financial difficulties at such a vulnerable time. For these types of circumstances, families are allowed to file a wrongful death claim against an at-fault driver’s car insurance company. This claim could be filed by a spouse or domestic partner, children of the victim, or in some cases the parents of the victim on behalf of the entire family.
